April’s event was quite a watershed event for Mobile Monday Sydney - sponsors, multiple laptop switching, a phone camera used for both presentations, free food + drink . . . if you missed it you missed out !

Our biggest turnout yet, 90 people, saw My247.com.au’s launch of their new my247.mobi portal (coincidentally on the 2/4/07). Congratulations to Andrew, ace presenter Chris, and the whole my247.com.au team for a flawless demo - and indeed for producing a very useful & effective mobile service. It will definitely be interesting to see similar off-deck offerings come to light, especially given the gist of the presentation that followed…

As expected, 3’s X-series generated a lot of excitement and interest, with as much as 2Gb of data/month for A$40 an historic level of bang-for-buck for any Australian mobile wireless data access service. The general consensus was - where can I get one ! That plus phones bundled with Skype - and a genuine committment to the broader mobile internet business model (according to the charming Mira Bashi), left a lot of people with a whole new perspective on the future of mobile. At last, we can glimpse the post-walled-garden world.

We all had speed-lines around us by the end of the evening, thanks in no small part to the generosity of event sponsors my247.com.au who supplied the first 50 drinks and food for all. Thanks guys!
