MobileMonday Sydney is proud to announce that its nominee for the Global MobileMonday Peer Awards Barcelona 2009, Xumii, has reached the final shortlist of 20 out of a field of 42 nominees and 169 participating startups.

“This is a terrific result for an inspiring Australian-led mobile technology company, and doubly so considering this is the first time we’ve been involved in the Global MobileMonday Peer Awards!” said MobileMonday Sydney chapter co-founder Tim Parsons.

The MobileMonday Mobile Peer Awards Barcelona is a gala global mobile innovation event attracting over 1000 attendees, held alongside the 3GSM World Mobile Congress event.

This week Mobile Monday attendees ‘PocketSchool’ launched a new service that teaches foreign languages using a mobile phone. PocketSchool works by sending daily audio messages to your mobile and is targeted at people who would like to learn a new language before travelling but may not have the time to attend classroom courses or regularly listen to a CD.

PocketSchool was founded by Michael Drysdale and Andrew Sinclair - who developed the product locally with the aim of teaching English to non-English speaking countries.
