Thursday, April 29th, 2010

:: 6.30pm for 7pm start, Mon 3rd May 2010
:: Kent Street Living Room, Level 1, The City Hotel (
www.cityhotel.com.au)
:: Entry on King Street corner Kent Street.

It’s the start of Q2 2010…where did time go???

Here at Mobile Monday Sydney, we’re always on the look out for the latest innovations and news in the mobile space.  So for the month of May we’ve got:

Mobile Eye-tracking
With a worldwide increase in the number of mobile devices, interest in eye‐tracking studies on these devices has also increased. Eye tracking can provide valuable information on a number of areas, such as how well a graphical interface works, where on a physical device the user looks for certain options (such as buttons) and how the user’s attention shifts between the different parts of the phone when interacting with it.

Tobii Technology and Objective Digital have brought out Jon Ward, from Acuity-ETS in the UK, to Australia to run a series of eye tracking seminars. This evening will give you an introduction on how to eye track mobile devices!

Objective Technology is the Australian reseller for Tobii Eye Tracking hardware and software.  www.ObjectiveDigital.com

Geo-Tagging Case Studies
We see the return of Nick Gonios, Commercial Director of Insqribe.  Nick will be presenting a high level overview of geo-location/ geo-tagging and case studies on how this has been rolled out in different parts of the world.

Presentation: Mobile Magazines
Paper is becoming obsolete, and publishers are rushing to push their publications online–yet they are not making any money! Mobile shows possible revenues to be made yet there are few platforms out there which cover a wide array of devices. Most applications only address the 4% data connection market but rule out the prepaid mobile and non-flat-rate customers. The iPhone is leading the way, yet iTunes is a time consuming hurdle for publishers to submit their applications for approval–no one knows what is in the mind of Apple these days, applications are rejected for the strangest reasons. What is the right strategy for a publisher to take, and how to address the whole market instead of only a high end phones?

Presentation: Tigerspike’s iPad Whitepaper
The fashion concious Oliver Palmer of Tigerspike will be talking about a new whitepaper his company has just released, giving some great insight into the new Apple iPad.

m-commerce : taking asia by storm

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Following on from last night’s very well-attended m-commerce event at Mobile Monday Sydney, here’s a link to a Terrapin event website for m-commerce Asia 2010:

… the key stats from this event flyer are worth extracting :

“In Asia, mobile commerce transactions are expected to reach almost $500 million, according to Gartner research. Gartner also forecasts 2.4 billion transactions will take place in Asia, more than anywhere else in the world.”

This of course in stark contrast to the low-key predictions of our speakers Harold (m-Hits), Chris (Pay by Snap) and Tasha (PayPal) about the glacially slow progress of m-commerce in Australia where ‘there’s just no compelling need for anyone - especially banks - to change the status quo’.

Comments on that anyone ?
